This course is directed to UNAM students who are willing to learn English as a Foreign Language using blended learning. This type of learning has been designed to take full advantage of these two modes of interaction: on-line and face-to-face. On-line interaction will be during 6 hours of intense work at home, 4 hours will be devoted to face-to face- interaction, which will take place on a weekly basis.
This is a 140 hour course for students who are starting with a level around B1+ and want to progress towards B2, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the Marco de Referencia para la Elaboración de Planes de Estudio del CELE.
After being exposed to different authentic materials, both in written and oral forms, and the practice of certain language activities, you will be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussion in your field of specialization. You will be able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity and to produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

This blended course for B1+ has been designed to have a 6 hour work on-line and two sessions of two hours in face-to-face interaction. This course has 5 units; each unit consists of several lessons. You will need to build up a glossary of your own per unit, so keep this in mind while you read a text or listen to an audio. Do not forget to take notes always. You will have approximately three weeks to complete every unit. It is highly recommended that you do all the activities on-line in advance in order to avoid falling behind schedule. Doing the activities on-line will help you practice what has already been taught in class.
The grading criteria consist of two parts: the evaluation of the face-to-face interaction and the evaluation of the on-line activities. Participation in class and in all on-line collaborative activities (glossaries, wikis and forums) is mandatory. Remember that what you post in the forum should reflect your opinion; you must comment on what your classmates post at least once, and you should always be respectful and polite in this type of interaction. Below, you will find a detailed description of the grading criteria.

Note: All the on-line activities will be graded on a 10/10 basis. Written performance will be graded according to the following criteria:
